California Libertarian Party Positions

A Quick Snapshot of the California Libertarian Party Positions

As more and more Americans find themselves increasingly at odds with both the Democratic and Republican party establishment politicians, individuals and organizations that seem to want to pander to the furthest edges of their platform while forgetting the hundreds of millions of Americans that sit much closer to the middle, third party political platforms – like the Libertarian party, for example, have grown by leaps and bounds.

Established nationally just four short decades ago, the Libertarian party has been able to garner a tremendous amount of momentum over this small block of time. In the 2016 Presidential Election, Gary Johnson ran as the Libertarian Party ticket member and garnered over 4 million votes – the most for a third-party candidate since 1996.

The California Libertarian Party has gotten bigger and bigger, especially in just the last two decades or so. More and more people in the most populous state in the US find themselves disagreeing with some of the staunchly liberal policies that seem to be centered around Los Angeles and other major urban areas while ignoring the blue-collar and rural/agricultural communities of this great state.

Libertarians are looking to take a little bit of what the Democrats do best alongside of what the Republicans do best, mixing and mashing these two disparate political beliefs while building something completely different at the exact same time.

Libertarian Party members are known for having rather firm positions when it comes to believing in a small government that stays out of the personal lives of individual citizens, beliefs that prioritize individual freedom over just about anything and everything else that the government wants to impose upon American citizens.

Traditionally known for moving in lockstep with one another in presenting a very unified front, it’s easy to start to think that the California delegation of the Libertarian Party would stand just a bit apart from the rest of the pack.

If you’re interested in learning where this political party stands on the political spectrum, we’ve included a couple of quick snapshots of their overall working beliefs below – including their beliefs on law and order in California.

Tort Reform – Libertarians always trying to draw a very firm and obvious line delineating where their beliefs begin and end on specific issues, but this is a little bit more challenging for them to enunciate when it comes to something as important as tort reform. On the one hand, most libertarians and Sacramento Auto Accident Attorney, believe that individuals should be held responsible for any harms that they bring to other, but also believe that government-imposed damage awards should be thrown out entirely.

Self-Ownership and Property Rights – On this issue there is next to no debate within the Libertarian Party of California. Individual rights and property rights are some of the most sacred foundations of the libertarian movement, with members believing that everyone has sole ownership over their body and their personal property in all circumstances. Personal injury lawyers will have an easy time working with Libertarian clients for the most part, but any government mandated payouts are going to be met with quite a bit of pushback.

Government Spending – For the most part, libertarians are not at all in favor of taxation. They believe that everyone should be entitled to all fruits of their labor, and that every time the government steps in and takes taxes to fund programs there is inevitable waste, corruption, and raft throughout that the free market would have weeded out entirely.

Libertarian Stance on the Drug War

Libertarian Stance on the Drug War

When it comes to the vaunted War on Drugs in America, it’s an issue that has affected citizens for decades, starting most prominently in the 1970s. To understand this issue, it could take a considerable amount of research. But regardless of that fact, it’s important to realize that both of the primary parties in the United States take very polarizing viewpoints on what to do. Most conservatives advocate for outright criminalization of all substances, whereas those on the left want government to  focus on treatment options.   However, the oft-forgotten side of the political aisle with a very unique solution is the Libertarian Party. Rather than treating users as criminals Libertarians are very much in favor of making virtually all of these substances legal and to have no government interference.

This would dramatically shift the ways drugs and drug users are treated in America. While this is a very compelling statement, why precisely do Libertarians believe what they believe regarding drugs in the first place?

A Failed War

To understand why Libertarians are so fundamentally against the Drug War, you have to understand the Drug War itself. Since the 1970s, the United States has empowered law enforcement agencies both federally and locally to enforce drug laws as they see fit. With the creation of DEA under the Nixon Administration, it dramatically shifted the way that federal law enforcement views those that use and buy drugs. Rather than treating them as byproducts of a larger system, they decided to prosecute and apprehend those that were at the local level, sometimes for many years at a time. This is a terrible idea because what it ends up doing is causing more harm than good, believes many Santa Cruz Personal Injury Lawyers.

Hundreds of thousands of people have since been locked up for a long time for non-violent drug arrests, and these laws have incentivized agencies big and large to go after these criminals. Because of that, law enforcement has no incentive to change how it operates. It is instead incumbent on the legislature to try and decriminalize a lot of these issues because what’s happening is that many citizens are spending a long time in prison for simply possessing a drug.

As Libertarians, they believe that it’s a war that should end and no one should be in prison simply for possessing or using drugs unless it violates the NAP or hurts someone else directly.

The Individual and Smaller Government

Really, the prosecution and apprehension of drug users is an act of violence on the behalf of the state. As Libertarians, having a small state and less influence on what individuals do will ensure that money is no longer wasted locking people up for simply exercising their individual freedoms. In the Libertarian ideal, the individual is the most important aspect of society. Rather than thinking about the collective, we’re concerned about individual rights. And if someone wants to have the freedom to smoke marijuana or use some other sort of substance, they should have the right to do so without fear of imprisonment.

Where Does the California Libertarian Party Stand On Certain Issues?

If you find yourself increasingly at odds with the Democratic Party or Republican Party, the time has come to make a change. Consider some of the alternatives to the Democratic Party or Republican Party.

One such alternative comes in the form of the Libertarian Party. Established some four decades’ prior, the Libertarian Party has garnered some considerable momentum. This is particularly true of the last decade or so.

The Libertarian Party is a viable alternative. However, it certainly stands to reason that you are going to want to learn as much about the party positions as you possibly can, argues North County DUI Attorney.

What Are the Positions of the California Libertarian Party?

One of the main reasons as to why the Libertarian Party has become so popular in recent times can be owed to their firm positions. Regardless of the issue you are curious about, you will find that the Libertarian Party has strong beliefs. The party is also notable for consistency amongst members, in terms of these strong beliefs. In other words, you are not going to find varied divisions within the party. Whether the issue involves gun rights, economic principles, gay marriage, or positions on internal issues, you are going to find a unified Libertarian Party. This is something you are going to want to keep in mind.

The Preamble of the Libertarian Party can be summed up in a single word: Liberty. Once you understand this word, and when you keep in mind how sacred the party obviously believes this word to be, you can begin to make some meaningful, educated guesses, as to how the Libertarian Party might feel about one issue or another.

Essentially, when you get right down it, the Libertarian Party believes in sovereignty. In this regard, the party believes that each individual has sovereignty over their own destiny.

What Does the Libertarian Party Say About…

In terms of specific Libertarian Party views on specific issues, there are a few to keep in mind:

• Tort reform: This issue is a bit on the complex side. However, on the subject of tort reform, the Libertarians have a number of clear views. For example, they believe that all individuals should be held accountable for the harms that they bring to others. They also believe that both fault and causation should be the foundation of liability with torts. A government-imposed damage award ceiling is strongly opposed, and heavily criticized by many, and the party also calls for the repealing of the Medical Injury Compensation Reform Act of 1975, in addition to a repeal for the Unfair Competition Act.

• Self-Ownership: This would fall under the party’s approach to personal liberty. It is the belief of the Libertarian Party that the individual has rights regarding the sole ownership of their bodies. These rights cannot be infringed upon by any individual, group, or government.

• Property rights: It is a cornerstone of Libertarian belief that a successful, free society is one with a profound degree of respect for property rights.

• Government finance/spending: On this elaborate subject, the position of the Libertarian Party is clear. They believe that all individuals should be allowed to keep the fruit of their labors.

• National defense: While the Libertarian Party believes that the United States has the right to create an army that can defend the nation against aggression, things like inherent military service, getting involved with other alliances, or acting as an authoritarian influence upon the world would be eliminated altogether.

• Health care: The Libertarian Party believes that the individual has the right to seek out and buy health insurance across state lines. At the same time, they also believe in a health care system that utilizes the free market.

• Criminal Justice Reform – many libertarians support the current efforts at criminal justice reform, including rehabiltit5ion alternatives to jail incarceration, the elimination of bail for certain low level offenses, and support public transportation which would ultimately reduce the amount  DUI arrests, a belief held by many.

Understanding Libertarian Party Beliefs

Libertarian_Party_1

As mentioned before, much of what the Libertarian Party believes can be traced to the notion of liberty. More specifically, it can be traced to the notion of individual liberty. The Libertarian Party believes that you have the right to make your own decisions on virtually every front. They do not believe that the government should have the right to tell you what to do, provided you are not causing harm to others. For example, they do believe that a tax-financed subsidy for a candidate or political party is something that should be eradicated from the landscape for good.

The aims are noble, whether a pure libertarian system can actually be implemented in today’s society with positive results is another matter altogether.

2016 California Libertarian Candidates

As the Democrats and Republicans continue to splinter, it is important to remember that you have options. Owing to the dramatic changes undergone by the Republican Party, particularly over the course of the past few years, an increasing number of voters are turning to the Libertarian Party as a viable alternative.

In California, for example, the Libertarian party has become a legitimate political contender. If you are curious about the California Libertarian Party, there are a number of elements that must be understood.

Breaking Down the California Libertarian Party

The California Libertarian Party is an extension of the larger Libertarian Party. The current Libertarian Party Presidential contender is Gary Johnson. The various views held by the party have proven to be quite popular with certain sects of voters. In particular, the Libertarian Party has become quite popular with those who are sick of America’s two-party system.

The Libertarian Party believes in several things. At the core of their belief system is the idea that when it comes to solving social problems, economic problems, and other types of problems, the solutions are best left to society, rather than government force. Keeping this core in mind, it is not difficult to imagine how the Libertarian Party feels about such issues as gun control, gay marriage, the closing of the Federal Reserve, the elimination of mandatory minimum sentences, and much more. They wish to bring eminent domain to an end, and their party has taken a hard stance on the subject of participating in foreign wars. They are firmly against such participation.

It is the belief of the Libertarian Party that a successful government is one that believes in the people. Furthermore, the Libertarian Party also believes that voters must end the practice of extending both money and power to the corrupt, aged, and bloated elements of government.

With this basic understanding of the Libertarian Party, you can now better understand the beliefs of the various candidates who are currently running for office in California on the Libertarian ticket.

California Libertarian Candidates

California has several individuals who are currently running for one office or another. There are also several elected officials in California, who are members of the Libertarian Party. Finally, those who are seriously interested in California’s Libertarian Party may want to look into the campus organizations that are currently available.

Honor Mimi Robinson is running for State Senate in District 33. Donn Coenen is running for State Assembly in District 1. Kenneth Anton, Mike Everling, and Baron Bruno are three more individuals

running for State Assembly in different districts of California. These districts would be State Assembly District 2, State Assembly District 51, and State Assembly District 62 respectively.

Aaron Starr is another Libertarian Party member worth noting. He is currently running for Oxnard City Council.

Elected officials from the Libertarian Party abound throughout the state. Phillip Leavitt is a member of the Carlotta Community Services District Board. John Inks is a member of the Mountain View City Council. Susan Marie Weber currently serves on the Palm Desert City Council. John Camera is a member of the Van Nuys Neighborhood Council.

There are others currently serving government positions throughout the state, including car accident attorneys in San Mateo. The Libertarian Party has certainly grown by leaps and bounds, ever since its formation some four decades ago. Their momentum is likely to continue moving forward. The party continues to look for ways in which to not only solidify their current beliefs, but to embrace ideas and opportunities that can help the party to grow, while still moving forward.

Some recent news from the party would certainly indicate that last thought.

The Future of the California Libertarian Party

In January of this year, the Libertarian Party branch in California indicated to the Secretary of State that independent voters would be given the chance to establish the Libertarian presidential primary ballot for June. It is interesting to note that this is the first time in which the California Libertarian Party has made such a decision. Some believed from the beginning that the move would create splinters within the party, while introducing other problematic elements.

Others call the move a smart one, suggesting that the party has now opened itself up to a wider pool of potential voters. Time will certainly give a clearer image.
